FAQs
Is it really worth having a professional headshot taken?
Absolutely - because people form their first impression of you in the blink of an eye.
It’s more important than ever that your profile pictures portray your professionalism, rather than simply being selected from among your favourite holiday selfies or having staff line up against a wall with unflattering lighting and taking shots on a phone.
Truly professional results require expensive professional level equipment. But more than that, a professional headshot is about the skill of the photographer to work with you, to direct you so that we can capture an image that conveys the messages that are important to you.
Imagine two divorce lawyers. One wants to be seen as being sympathetic, somebody who is there to support you and guide you through a traumatic experience. The other wants to be seen as ruthless, somebody who will fight tooth and nail to get everything possible for you out of this process. Of course, if you’re the lawyer, why not have both looks for different branding.
I know how to discover what look you want, and then make sure that your image tells your story.
What if I just don’t look good in photographs?
I love it when I’m shooting somebody and they tell me that they’re so happy with the results because they think they’ve never looked good in photographs before. It happens a lot and is a very common belief.
As a headshot expert, I know how to work best with your features and skin tone. Those are the basics. I then work with you to make sure that you are comfortable and confident (I know that it can be terrifying being in front of a camera) and will direct and guide you to achieve the look that you want.
If you haven’t looked good in photographs before then it’s because you haven’t met the right photographer.
Everyone should look great in their photograph. With myheadshot, you will look your very best.
What should I do to prepare for my photo shoot?
Try to get a good nights sleep beforehand. It’s a good idea to stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water for your skin to look it’s best and avoid drinking alcohol the night before your shoot. If you enjoy a coffee in the morning, know that spills can happen at the worst possible time so bring a change of clothes - just in case!
I will guide you through everything else for your shoot so you can just relax and look your best.
What should I wear for my shoot?
It depends on what look you want to achieve, but for a clean professional image, my advice is to wear what you would wear to an interview.
Most people tend to look smarter when they are wearing a jacket, and a bold coloured but not too vibrant tie will show professionalism. Remember that you are the star of your image - you don’t want to be upstaged by a distracting shirt/blouse or tie.
For options with a change of wardrobe, try experimenting with different shirt and tie colour combinations. You might want to consider a couple of completely different looks. This is the real advantage of myBrand - you should bring a wide selection of clothes so we can shoot different options - if you wear a suit one day and ripped jeans the next then lets explore those looks and bring out your character(s).
What should I do if I get a spot on the day of my shoot?
Don’t panic! That’s why I have Adobe Photoshop. Just let me know about any temporary blemishes and I will ensure that they are taken care of for your retouched images.
How and when will I receive my photos?
Your images will be available for digital download (to any device) within 7 days after your photo shoot session.
If you require a faster turnaround time then please let me know and I will do my best to meet your requirements.
What about hair and makeup?
I want you to feel like yourself and to be as relaxed and confident as possible. If you normally have a stylist then please do bring them along with you, but if you normally do your own hair and makeup then I advise that you should stick with what you know. Don’t worry about things like stray hairs or blemishes - that’s what the retouchers do.
Please do bring your products with you for touch-ups during our session (some people bring entire suitcases of products - please don’t feel embarrassed!)
I do recommend that you avoid new products that you are not used to for at least three days before your shoot in case of any potential reactions.
Are you covid safe?
I am currently only offering sessions to individuals at my studio and limiting shoots to ensure that the studio space is cleaned, sanitised and fully ventilated between clients.
I have received both vaccination doses and take regular covid tests. I am happy to wear a mask if it will make you feel more comfortable.
I will check your temperature (contact free) and you will see my temperature check result for your own safety.
I also have a dedicated customer bathroom, which is cleaned and sanitised between customers.
Can somebody accompany me at my shoot?
Of course they can! If it will make you feel more comfortable to have a friend / colleague / significant other accompany you for your shoot then they will be most welcome to attend. At this time I would request that your guest wear a face-mask while inside the studio.
Do you cater for people with disabilities?
I will always do my very best to cater for your particular requirements. I have off street parking available for customers visiting my studio and I can make arrangements for wheelchair access through standard access doors with notice. My customer bathroom is on the ground floor but unfortunately is not wheelchair adapted.
You are always welcome to bring a carer or assistant on a shoot with you and I will always add extra time to a shoot to offer a dedicated carer a basic profile picture for themselves at no extra charge. If desired, they are welcome to pay cost price to elevate this to a fully retouched image.
If you have any questions or requirements then do please contact me and I will do whatever I can to meet your needs.
Do you offer any discounts for special causes?
At myheadshot, I pride myself on a mature and supportive approach towards social responsibility above the maximisation of profit.
I welcome the opportunity to work with the voluntary and charity sectors at reduced rates.
I also recognise the struggles faced by younger people and the older unemployed attempting to enter into a highly competitive labour market, so I offer reduced rates to students, apprentices and over 50s who find themselves unemployed who wish to have a basic level professional headshot for CV and online profiles.
I also offer reduced rates for group events, such as making arrangements with Student Unions and work club groups.
If you are interested in any of these options then please do contact me to let me know your requirements.
I didn’t love my shoot. What do I do?
I’m so committed to outstanding customer service and total satisfaction, that if you don’t love the result of your session booked at my studio in Molesey, KT8, then you won’t pay a penny. That’s the myheadshot guarantee.
I loved my shoot! How can I help make everyone I know look great?
